The Sleep Cure

I read "Valley of the Dolls" when I was a freshman in high school. I had the book sitting on my desk in algebra class when my teacher walked by, saw it, and announced to the whole class, "In my day that book was considered pornography!"

I was mortified.

But I felt compelled to keep reading of course...

If you've not read "Valley of the Dolls" I'll fill you in. First, my teacher was misinformed. I do not find it terribly erotic. It's not like those books with the picture of a maiden with a torn bodice being held by Fabio on the cover. Think "Sex in the City" with less sex and lots of drugs.

At one point in the book, one of the characters needs to freshen up and loose a few pounds before she embarks on a new movie career. She goes to Switzerland for "the sleep cure". Basically she was sedated for several days until she was revived; well rested and several pounds lighter. Who knows if this ever really existed, but I was always intrigued by this idea.

I need the sleep cure right now. (While the progesterone is making me quite sleepy, it is not the same.) I need to be sedated for a few days only to be shaken awake while some nurse whispers in my ear, "It's all over, you're pregnant." Or at the very least, "We're sorry it didn't work, but you are ten pounds lighter."

I'd like to sign up for that as well! We can go together, our very own sleepover type thing. =)

Hang in there, girl. The wait must be killing you, but you're in all of our thoughts.

I wholeheartedly support The IVF Coma! It should start on day 3 and end after the beta.

What a wonderful idea! We shall have to market this to the local RE's...you will be rich!

I want the sleep cure too! Except I want it to last about 16 more years, and then they can wake me up for retirement...

Oh I am in for that. It should start at the beginning of the cycle for me!
I know it doesn't help but ... not too long now. I was thinking of learning as many rude words as possible in 5 languages. That should take two weeks!
Hang in there

Hilarious! Can I use the Sleep Cure to wait until I start stimming?

I read an interview with an RE who jokingly suggested something along these lines as a standard part of all IVF protocols.

I'm tellin' ya girl...the IVF thing just never seems to end.

Round 1: producing eggs and making embies...

Round 2: transfer and gettin' those puppies to stick...

Round 3: prayin' that those hCG numbers keep doublin' or at least increasing...

Round 4: making it to 6-week window and seeing that baby(ies) on ultrasound with heartbeats...

Round 5: getting to that 12-week mark and breathing a small sigh of relief...

AND IT NEVER ENDS! I'm not sure what round I'm on now, but I do know it involves my medical miracle 5-YEAR OLD. To call me a mother bear is an understatement...ha!!!

Continuing to say prayers for you and sending positive thoughts your way.

BTW...when you do get released to a regular OB/GYN (WHAT...you mean I'm "done" with the RE!!!) be sure to find one that will handle you with kid gloves. I saw a high-risk OB/GYN (only b/c of my in vitro status) and she encouraged me to call her ANYTIME b/c she understood the emotional toll that IVF takes on her patients. While I tried not abuse that privilige, I do think that my pregnancy was on emotinal overload...LOVED HER for that!!!
