Day 3 Report

No transfer today.

Because..."there are too many good ones to chose from."

So here are the stats for all you math nerds out there (my clinic grades embryos 1 through 3 with 1 being the best):

12 cell, grade 2
9 cell, grade 1
9 cell, grade 2
9 cell, grade 2
8 cell, grade 2
8 cell, grade 2
7 cell, grade 1
7 cell, grade 1
7 cell, grade 2
6 cell, grade 3
2 arrested

Wow. Good stuff.

So transfer will be Friday if these little guys keep growing. I feel mixed about delaying the transfer to a day 5. I'd feel more confident if I had some more grade 1 embryos. (I apologize to my fellow poor responders for that statement.) However, I still feel like hell from my retrieval so I am happy to have a couple more days to recover.

The bad news: I already took today, Thursday, and Friday off work. I decided not to tell my boss about this cycle (I haven't told anyone IRL this time and now I am too superstitious to say anything). There is just too much going on at work for me to drop everything and run out the door without a little planning. Instead of stressing about how I was going to make my getaway I decided to just take the days off and worst case scenario I would burn a few vacation days.

So I'm off to the fabric store and the book store and the dog park. areyoukiddingme asked what I have been sewing. Well, I have sewn a couple pillow covers, some bags, and I am finishing up endlessly hand stitching the binding on a quilt. Since I'll have a lot of time on my hands maybe I'll post some pictures in the next couple days.

PS. I am overwhelmed by the support I have been receiving. Thank you so much.

As reasons for not transferring go that has got to be the best. Keeping my fingers crossed.

Great news. My fingers are crossed that these embryos keep developing.

I think it's good that you're off work and doing something enjoyable while you wait.

wow - that's great. And, it's awesome that you get another day or two to recover. My fingers and toes are crossed for you. Also, btw, our dogs look a lot a like. Mine is 4 now...but she's a golden and has curly ears like yours. Too cute! Take care!

Well, those look like great little embryos. Excellent news today.

Thanks for the sewing update - handstitching the binding on a quilt? That sounds like a huge job!

A few days off work is probably a good idea anyway - especially if you spend it doing entertaining things.

You have rock star embies that will be rock star blasts! This is great news! They know what they're doing and would only move the transfer if it meant better chances for finding THE ONE! They could even go for day 6 which indicates superstar blasts. This is very good news. Good luck!!

I am incredibly thrilled to hear this news. I understand your being nervous about delaying the transfer, but I have faith that it means the very best embies will be transferred! This is great news!

Oh congratulations! Those are some fantastic numbers. Looking forward to hearing how they do over the next couple of days!

Yay! Yay! Yay!

My two that stuck were 5 day blasties. I've read good stuff about 5 day transfers having much higher success rates.

Plus, the wait is shorter. :)

So excited for you!

That's wonderful! Delaying transfer until day 5 is absolutely a good thing! And I definitely agree with PJ - you will appreciate the shorter 2ww with a 5dt (it's more like 1ww) YAY! Sounds like a perfect storm! Keep us updated =)

You have really done a great job this time! Yay for lots of choices - if they are doing this well now you will be perfect for transfer Friday. I'm sure you are sweating it, but your numbers are so different than ever before!

Hang in there hon, go do fun stuff today and tomorrow, then get ready to lay around for a couple days. Go embies go!

All positive thoughts on a great 5 day transfer heading your way! Day 5 is the gold standard at my clinic so I am thrilled to hear that you have so many beauties still going to 5 day!

Enjoy this nice day off!

Great news that only 2 dropped off so far. 2 more days of development will really show you which the true frontrunners are. You've certainly got lots to choose from!
Have fun relaxing in the meantime.

that is a brilliant result!
everything is still crossed tightly for you :)

I will also chime in and say that there is so much evidence to show that a 5-day transfer is best. My clinic won't even do 3-day transfers.

http://www.sharedjourney.com/articles/3vs5.html That's a good read on the issue.

I am so excited about this cycle for you! Such great results. And...my clinic says although they grade the embryos...they have yet to see astounding pregnancy rate differences among them (my clinic grades 1-4)....it is just a measure of what they "think" makes a good embryo...who knows if it even plays a role in implantation and growth after that!

Anyway...enjoy your sewing and your bedrest....I am having FET in March and am oddly looking forward to my 2-3 days in bed! I think that stems from having a 2 year old in the house (my first IVF baby at 41).

I'm praying like mad...but these look great so far.

WOW Megan, how great to have so many thriving! I understand both why they wanted to wait and why you might not want to, but I hope your body does some great healing and those embryos look amazing-- I am so glad you are taking advantage of your days off to do things You want to do.

take care and I am keeping my fingers crossed for you for "so many great ones it is hard to choose" on friday too!

I had the same "already booked days off work and now changing to a day 5" problem. It turned out to be awesome. I was uncomfortable for a few days after retrieval and getting to lay around the house and play hooky was a good change of pace after the craziness of the first half of IVF. Enjoy your time off! There are a lot of good looking embryos there!

That's an awesome report! And what is going on with that 12 cell - little eager beaver! How many will you transfer? (I'd be tempted to put back as many as they'd let me!)

I am going through my first IVF this weekend. We have our ER scheduled for Sunday (V-Day) morning. Best of luck to you on your transfer!

This is a 1st for me and a really good 1st. I would love the Dr to say "You have so many good ones." Prayers for Friday.

That is wonderful news! I never made it to a 5 day transfer, even though I occasionally had some beautiful embryos. However, it was my very poorly rated embryos, a 4 cell and a 6 cell, both pretty fragmented that became my twins.(just to keep the hopes up for the not so lucky readers out there ;) Wishing you all the luck in the world!

rebecca said...

Wow, that is a fantastic report...congratulations! Enjoy the extra couple days, the rest & relaxation can only help you & your embryos when they transfer:)
