Snake Oil Wanted

Thanks for all the well wishes on my AFC.

Tomorrow I start stims.

I am looking for any and all TCM practices, hollistic advice, and old wives tales regarding getting follicles to grow and quality eggs to develop.

Diet advice?

How do we feel about exercise? I am thinking only walking...don't over exert myself.

Are hot baths taboo?

I'm stopping the wheatgrass while stimming...how do we feel about that?

Of course I will be meditating each day...

And continuing acupuncture.

Anything else? Anything? All crazy suggestions will be appreciated and probably followed!

Not for JUST yet, but I've always eaten pineapple after transfer, and I've had remarkably good luck with solid implantations. That's the ONLY good luck I've had, but hey, I'm planning on keeping up the pineapple habit next time, as well.

And yeah, no hot baths, please!

And no skim milk. Whole milk is actually better for you right now than skim - something about the stuff they use to fluff up skim & 2% being a hormonal mimic.

Hoping for lots & lots of super-healthy eggs for you.

They did a study here at UMD that said doing acupuncture before and after transfer increased chances by 60% - don't know about to increase follies, but can't imagine it would hurt!

I honestly don't know any thing more than you. I would say "relax"... tee hee hee. I just couldn't resist. LOL! I think you are doing all I would do....um, and more.

The month we got pregnant I was at the gym 3 times a week. So I would step it up a bit over walking. Seems a few of the pregnancy blogs I still read--mom got pregnant while re-starting an aggressive excercise routine. Of course it didn't re-work for me...but putting it out there.

Good luck with the stimming process.

Yoga would be beneficial, and in line with the meditation plans. A moderate amount of exercise would be good, but my RE has warned against anything that gets your heart rate up high (no aerobics, moderate jogging or walking). When I start my stims (within a week, I hope) I will probably revert to my ice cream habit - it got me through the last cycle! Maybe I can go with frozen yogurt instead, to be healthier....

I was told not to raise my heart rate - so walking was fine as long as I was calm. No yoga or bathing or swimming since the change in core temperature is bad . I have to think about all those millions upon millions of women that got pregnant while doing all the stuff we aren't supposed to.

Can't but help to keep calm, cool and stretch.

I've heard that eating watermelon can help with egg quality. Not sure how true it is but thought I'd share that with you. I'm sending you lots of luck this time around.

I havent got anything useful to say other than best wishes, sweetie! Fingers crossed.

Don't some naturopaths also swear by royal jelly for improving egg quality?

I'm starting Royal Jelly for this next cycle. I also posted some vitamins on my blog that I'm going to start taking as well.My main goal is to improve my egg quality. Good luck!

Oh, and about the wheatgrass--any specific reason why you would stop it during stims? I'm also doing a shot of this a day and I'm curious why you would stop for stims. Thanks!

i agree with sprog. also, the doc told me not to raise my heart rate above 140. i did walking and swimming mostly...i think i may have actually still gone to a few spinning classes until i was a few days into stims.

thinking lots of positive thoughts about you and this cycle :)

Def. stick with the acupuncture!

And since you asked for the crazy things... eat full fat dairy, and eat pineapple around implantation time!

I always did pineapple, mcdonalds the morning of the transfer, wear green to the transfer...Never did anything during stimming unless it was something I wanted to do. Best of luck!

Fresh royal jelly and acupuncture. I swear it was these 2 things that helped 8 of my 9 eggs fertilise and last right through to blasty stage.
Good luck!

I increased my protein intake, ate eggs for breakfast every morning....and I too ate a pineapple after my last transfer. May all snake oil help....Thinking of you.

Hey! Thanks for the nice comments. Do you happen to know where that study was for the l-arginine? I'd be interested in checking it out. Love the fun stuff you post on your blog too!

How about femoral massage? http://www.lotusfertility.com/Maternal_Age_and_Egg_Quality.html
Who knows what'll help, but I figured better blood flow to the ovaries couldn't hurt. And other than that, I just tried to stay relatively calm and unstressed at work.

One last message and then I'm shutting my mouth--I've been reading/Googling about the vitamins/supplements/etc. and a lot of the girls that add(ed) stuff in during their cycles seemed to stop taking everything the night before egg retrieval, what do you think about that? They would continue the prenatal vitamin after ER but that was about it.

I ate pineapple core and all and at least implantation happened. I chose a separate piece of music every night to dance to with MrBeep after the transfer. That helped my spirit a lot. Sometimes I would make him pick. :-)
